Dr.Cathy Mputhia
Cathy is the founder of C.Mputhia Advocates. Her role includes heading the firm’s strategy, business development, and customer care department. She is also the team head in the firm projects where she oversees the firm’s corporate finance, corporate governance, environment, natural resources, and consultancy wings.
Cathy is a versatile advocate not only experienced in legal services but is also equipped with experience in strategic management and leadership. As such she is well-positioned to offer holistic advisory services, especially in the areas of corporate governance, corporate finance, innovation, and emerging laws which are her passions.
She has been the winner of the Kenyan Woman Lawyer(2018) award by the lawyer magazine in the United Kingdom. She has a very analytical and inquisitive mind which enables her to offer innovative solutions to her clients. She takes time to understand her clients, their needs as well as the business environment in which they operate i. Her legal advice is not just cliche but is very strategic and tailored to enable her clients to meet their objectives.
Notable experience:
Lead consultant for WIPO a UN agency in drafting the Copyright and Collective Management Organization Regulations for the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Lead consultant in the harmonization of intellectual property laws in EAC, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan.
Lead consultant in several infrastructure projects including the construction of Maara dam, Thwake dam, and many others.
Dr.Cathy Mputhia is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with almost 20 years of experience as an advocate. She holds a Doctor of Laws-Hon cause (London Graduate School) in recognition of her contribution to intellectual property law in Kenya. She also holds a Master of Laws, international commercial Law (University of Salford), Master of Business Administration, Strategic Management(J.K.U.A.T), and Bachelor of Laws(University of Nairobi).
Her professional skills and membership include Certified Professional Mediator(MTI-Institute), and patent Agent(K.I.P.I).
Dr. Cathy has been a member of the board of Afrika Investment Bank and is currently a board member of Rongo University since 2017. She has served on the human resource committee, academic appeals and audit, and risk committees.
On the side, she runs The Law and You show a legal update series on the firm’s Youtube channel, and also columns for Business Daily Africa. She has been a conference speaker at several conferences including the world A. I show in Nairobi, link Cibnference, corporate succession planning among others.

Brenda Maina
Brenda is an associate of the firm. Her practice focuses on dispute resolution as well as corporate and commercial matters. She is well versed in employment law, contractual claims, debt recovery, adoption and guardianship matters, real estate, land, and environmental law, immigration law, and intellectual property law but not limited to other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms such as arbitration, and mediation, and negotiation. She also advises clients on commercial, regulatory, and compliance issues on corporate matters.
She is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a graduate of Kenyatta University. Before joining C. Mputhia Advocates, Brenda previously worked with Haki na Amani Advocates, Kairu and Mc Court advocates, Kimani and Muriithi Associates, and Capital Markets Authority where she immersed and gained invaluable experience and knowledge.
Brenda is a member of the Client Care Committee and Business Development and Strategy Committee at the firm. She is diligent, meticulous, thorough, and hands-on. Brenda’s out-of-the-box approach and commitment to the client’s needs make her a very versatile and resourceful individual to the firm.

Tom Walubengo Kataka
Tom Walubengo Kataka is a highly skilled advocate of the High Court of Kenya having attained his Bachelors degree in Law from Moi University. He also holds a postgraduate diploma from the Kenya School of Law.
He is adept in legal research and drafting and has routinely represented individual and corporate clients. Further, he has proven experience and capability in handling litigation, family law, conveyancing, commercial law and customer delivery.
Aside from legal skills, he is conversant with speaking in French which makes it an asset when dealing with diverse cultures.

mikal christine
Mikal Christine works as a legal copywriter for the firm. Her work revolves around creating useful and informative content for the firm’s clients and content that shapes the firm’s brand as a leading provider of innovative legal solutions.
Mikal is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a graduate of Kisii University. She is also pursuing her Master of Laws (LL.M) in Intellectual Property and Technology Law at the University of Nairobi. Moreover, she works part-time as a legal copywriter for Tesla Media Group.
Before joining C. Mputhia Advocates, Mikal previously worked with Kipkenda and Company Advocates, the County Assembly of Kakamega, J.P. Makokha & Company Advocates, and Mukele and Company Advocates, where she gained invaluable knowledge and experience.
Mikal’s dedication to providing creative, informative, and valuable legal content makes her a resourceful individual for the firm. She is highly skilled in law firm marketing and advertising techniques, enabling the firm to build meaningful and strategic relationships with existing and potential clients.

Benadictor kibira
Benadictor Kibira is one of the lawyers at the firm. He is keenly involved in legal work and focuses on legal research. He researches various subjects of law from a wide pool of data and information to form a complete picture of specific subject matter to provide the firm with relevant information for better decision making. Before joining the firm Benadictor had worked with Odindo &Co. Advocates as a legal researcher and this has given him a wide scope on matters of legal research. He works well in coordination with other members of the firm and is a good team player. He is a member of the Client Care Committee and Business Development and Strategy Committee at the firm. He is meticulous, tenacious, and innovative in his approach to solving legal problems.

Janice vusha gillian
Janice is a legal researcher at the firm. She is actively involved in legal work and keens on legal research. She researches various subjects of law from a wide pool of data and information in a way that connects dots and forms a complete picture of specific subject matter to provide the firm with the knowledge it needs to fuel better decisions.
Janice is a professional mediator and is also experienced in project management and monitoring and evaluation.
Before joining the firm, Janice worked at Omondi Ogutu & Associates where she gained invaluable experience.
Janice is currently pursuing a Masters’s in International Studies and Diplomacy at the University of Nairobi. She is a graduate of Kabarak University and has completed Postgraduate Diploma at the Kenya School of Law.
She is a member of the Client Care committee, and Business Development and Strategy Committee at the firm.
Janice is keen to venture into Human rights and Humanitarian Law as well as Intellectual Property Law. Something she enjoys doing during her free time is offering Pro-bono legal services as well as mediation as it bridges relationships that would have otherwise been lost.
